If you were among those counting your Arx ahead of the Panther Clipper Mk2’s arrival on July 22nd to Elite: Dangerous, then you’re going to want to re-check your math because Frontier Developments have announced that this new large ship, along with other large ships, will be a bit more costly going forward.
Specifically, the Clipper’s price will be 19,020 Ark for the standard version and 38,000 Ark for the kitted out stellar version, versus 16,520 and 33,000 Ark respectively for small and medium ships. To frame it another way, the costs to buy the Arx bundles needed to get the ship are $19 and $38 respectively, though those bundles will also have a pile of cash shop currency left over, as is par for the MTX course for such bundles.
Player response to this news appears to be a bit more muted than one might anticipate, at least if the official forums and Reddit are any indicator. Many players claim that a price hike seemed inevitable for large ships, with some even expressing surprise that the prices weren’t higher, while even more are focusing on the potential for more large ships to be added to the game or pointing out FDev’s intention to continue updating E:D. Others, however, continue to warn about a slippery slope, argue that small ships should cost less money following the studio’s own logic, or complain that $38 is too much outright regardless of where the money is going.
Meanwhile this past weekend saw the Gutamaya Corsair arrive for in-game credits purchase, some changes to Powerplay intended to encourage some more aggressive activity from players to keep faction control of space, and a new three-pronged community goal involving some of the game’s major powers that awards merits for those who participate. This new CG is the first of additional such activities that FDev says will directly involve attacking power-aligned ships and could shape the galaxy.
