There are a lot of moving gears that keep Overwatch 2 ticking, and there will be more coming when Season 18 kicks off, but it’s not only about adding but refining as game director Aaron Keller notes in his latest address.
The planned updates are framed around the what, how, and why players step into the game, starting first with acknowledgment that having multiple modes is good, but the UI to get to those wanted modes could do with some touching up and the Arcade mode may be streamlined. Speaking of modes, Season 18 will introduce an unranked version of Stadium.
The next season is also promising “a big update” for perks in Season 18, but Keller also remarks on the addition of systems that add more mid-match choices, though he also points out these options need to be careful not to be overly complex. Finally, the next season is looking to add more meaningful rewards to progression by gradually adding ways for players to get goodies. Details aren’t provided, but it’s part of a series of adjustments on Blizzard’s mind.
In other Blizzard game news, Hearthstone has decided that bringing back its in-house Talkstone dev podcast series is a good call, so that’s what they did. This podcast is all about the digital CCG’s esports scene, and the first episode zeroes in on the prior Spring Championship and assures fans that Hearthstone esports is alive, well, and fully supported. We’ll be watching that intently for sure.
Finally, Hearthstone’s Lost City of Un’Goro is live now with what Blizzard says is “145 brand-new cards, including new Story and Map cards, a new Kindred keyword, and a returning Quest keyword.”
