As we noted yesterday, ArenaNet is planning to slow-roll its deep-dives on the Guild Wars 2 Visions of Eternity elite specs, starting today. While we’ve already got a load of teases, confirmations, and guesses, today we’re getting a hard look at three of the nine specs: the Troubador, the Galeshot, and the Luminary. Yes, confirmed that the Galeshot is for Rangers and Luminary is for Guardians.
Troubador is the easiest; we’ve known that was the Mesmer since the first time we saw the magical pink mandolin.
“Being more aurally focused, troubadours opt to manifest their power by generating musical notes with their abilities rather than visually deceptive clones,” ArenaNet says. “These notes are used to extend the duration of their instrumental enchantments, allowing them to command a lasting presence in combat. Once their orchestra is in full swing, troubadours use their keynote skill, Crescendo, to swing the tide of battle with appropriate flair.” Using their instruments (which replace shatter skills) and their voices, they will recite tales and “release waves of sonic energy” to heal friends and wound enemies.
The Galeshot is a Tengu-themed archer that actually centers bow use on the Ranger (Finally! Was nobody else tired of axes? Just me? Ok.). “Galeshots are rangers and the premier archers of Tyria,” ArenaNet says. “Using their aptitude for nature magic, they can sculpt and command the wind at will. This power is manifested in the Cyclone Bow, a weapon that is capable of long-range devastation.” The Cyclone Bow “generates arrows over time” as a resource for its special wind-and-lightning-themed skills and freezing squalls. (I often played a R/E in Guild Wars 1, so this feels like a fun throwback to that.)
Finally, we’ve got the Luminary spec, which will allow the Guardian to “bear an enchanted iron brazier that sustains a powerful sacred flame,” the better to “wreathe themselves with this fire and wield a blazing arsenal of weapons against their foes while striking powerful stances mid-fray.” As both support and damage toons, Luminaries will use Radiant Shroud, a resource-free mechanic, to access their new skills.

Note that we’ve got the three icons now too. Troubie and Galeshot were pretty obvious, but the Luminary’s shield wasn’t.
Three more specs are on deck for next week; ArenaNet will be showcasing these three, however, in its Friday stream.
