Out of Time is an unhinged Epic Games-backed co-op roguelike launching in September

Earlier today, Manticore Games dropped deets on a brand-new unreleased title called Out of Time. The studio is describing it as a co-op action roguelike set in a world that’s a “tangled, yet beautifully chaotic, mess.”

“The good news: You and your friends will have an endless supply of gear and weapon combinations to choose from to build your own unique group of survivors,” says Manticore’s pitch. “The bad news: All of mankind is trapped and needing to be saved from a gauntlet of dragons, mutant crabs, evil humanoids, warped beasts, killer robots, and everything in between – often all at once.”

This is one of those rare games where I’m going to suggest actually watching the trailer, both because it’s cute and because it does a pretty good job of laying out the wacky time-twisting setting and why all these different eras and motifs are smooshed together like The Cube or New World or Secrets of the Obscure or… actually, we have kind of a lot of these, don’t we. Hey look over there, robot dude playing a battle guitar.

The EGS store calls it the “first multiplayer 3D roguelike,” but nope, not a chance; Hellgate London (2007) would qualify, and we’re sure it wasn’t first either. Anyway, this looks like a mash-up of an extraction RPG and a wave defense game, with some roguelike elements kicked in, along with that unmistakable UE look.

If Manticore Games sounds familiar, that’s because Epic Games sunk $15M into it back in 2020, saying “Manticore’s mission is to unleash a new wave of creativity in games by radically lowering the barriers to game making and publishing the same way that YouTube revolutionized video creation.”

More eras, PvP modes, and platforms are on the way, but first, the game is launching September 25th with a price of $24.99 – initially only on the Epic Games Store.
