A while back, we did a Daily Grind on MMOs that run on a potato. We’re flipping ye olde paradigm around today, however, and asking for the MMOs that cook your computer.

Caveats apply, of course; I’m guessing most people reading an MMO blog in 2025 have a decent rig, and I know that MMOs tend to be pretty forgiving on hardware. But it can still be an issue. For example, when I got a laptop, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to play some of my favorite MMOs – even some older ones – without making the video card turn into a font of molten plastic under my fingertips. I recently upgraded my daughter’s PC, too, because Guild Wars 2 was making her box roar like a jet engine.
