The last time that Brighter Shores was focused on a paradigm-changing update, it was aimed at rehashing its ill-advised combat professions structure, which previously locked professions behind content chapters. Now it looks as if another major overhaul is on the horizon, as lead dev Andrew Gower has shared initial details about the Project Milestone update that’s in the works.
Gower says that this next major patch will address the primary criticisms that the MMORPG’s leveling feels unrewarding and new content appears to be recycled. This is being done by adding more content with new mechanics (like the Botanist that will replace the Gathering profession), ensuring activities don’t repeat more than every 50 levels, unlocking more game features across levels, and ensuring milestone rewards are more plentiful.
Reaction to these changes so far appears to bear some general optimism, as replies on Twitter and Reddit laud Gower’s line of thinking, applaud the direction of these changes, and appear to be willing to wait for them to arrive.
On the subject of those changes arriving, timing for when these updates land wasn’t provided, but Gower did point out how Fen Research has doubled in size since early access and that adjustments will apply to at least the first 100 levels of each profession before more episodic content is added, so ideally fans won’t have to wait too long for another big shift in the MMO.
