Editor’s note: The earlier version of this article unintentionally conflated the crypto MMO named Avalon with the other crypto MMO named Avalon. We’ve corrected that error, and now we’re wondering why we even needed one crypto MMO named Avalon? Sigh.
Through 2023 and 2024 we’ve been reporting on Avalon, and in-development crypto MMORPG from the Avalon studio founded by Jeffrey Butler. But apparently there’s another in-development crypto MMORPG named Avalon from Danu Games, and indeed it has just revealed a second version of the game for Steam that has siloed all the crypto stuff into the version off Steam.
“Inspired by the legend of King Arthur and an alternate history of the Knights Templar, players embark on a thrilling journey to earn their own place among the Knights of the Round Table—and perhaps even uncover the most powerful secrets hidden deep within the Templar archives.”
Avalon bills itself as a world of exploration for solo players and groups, with lots of PvE activities including three types of six-player raids, PvP arenas and aerial PvP aboard dragon mounts, plenty of crafting and gathering, and a robust in-game economy. A dev diary from last May showcases the game’s world, its housing system, its optional PvP, the existence of grinding zones, and various zone and UI updates, while a trailer from March takes a look at the region of Genesis Island.
The MMO is angling to enter early access on Steam at some point in the future; timing isn’t available at the moment but a scroll through the game’s Twitter account shows off some recent scenes from a closed alpha test in May while founder’s packs are already being sold ahead of time. Fans are otherwise welcome to keep an eye on the Steam page for additional update previews and to, of course, wishlist the game in the meantime. Just bear in mind that it looks like the Web3 pay-to-earn stuff is still happening… just off Steam.
