I was surprised today to realize we’ve been talking about Destiny Rising for almost a year, but it’s true – and now it’s almost here.

The game is NetEase’s new mobile multiplayer looter shooter set in the Destiny universe and IP, with the same basic mission, strike, and raid content, only on, y’know, a device that fits in your pocket. NetEase now says it’s officially launching on August 28th, following what will by then be over nine months of testing.

“NetEase Games […] is proud to announce that Destiny Rising, the new free-to-play mobile sci-fi RPG shooter that delivers players to a new, alternate timeline in the Destiny universe, will launch on August 28th on iOS and Android, with the game free to pre-order now on the App Store and Google Play,” the company writes. “The time for a new generation of Lightbearers to take a stand is almost here, with players soon able to dive into an all new story in the Destiny franchise. Set in an alternate timeline before the events of the original game, Destiny Rising is the start of a whole new saga that anyone can jump in and enjoy, with players able to shape a future that has yet to be written.”

Of course, NetEase is promoting preregistration with bonuses in it for players; at it stands, over 6M players have already done so, which guarantees five rewards. If 10M clicky-clicky the prereg, then you’ll get a sixth too.
