Did y’all see that excellent Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie? (If not, you totally should.) Out of the many things that delighted me in that film was the fact that the main character was a fighting bard — one of my favorite classes in RPGs, period.
I can’t help it: I love bards, minstrels, and even tenacious yodelers in MMOs. Give me a bardic class, and I am there. It’s that marriage of music and combat, buffing and debuffing, and weapons and instruments that make these classes feel so special.
Why are MMO bards so appealing? And if you’re on the opposite side of the fence on this — shame on you — then why do you think that bards are overrated as classes?
