Trove confirms melee blocking and hints at possible additional game modes in new interview

As we noted previously, the colorful voxel MMORPG Trove has turned 10 years old this month, and while Gamigo has fully said that it will not put out a roadmap, we did get at least a smattering of what’s possibly on the horizon in the near and far future thanks to an MMO Bomb interview with product lead Henrik Schröder.

First, Schröder confirms that the ability for players to block attacks is coming sometime in the near future; he notes that melee characters have high mortality rates, particularly at higher difficulty levels, so granting melee characters the ability to defend themselves is incoming. Schröder also mentioned that there were plans to “give our allies more meaning and an additional purpose” like seeing them grow or act on their own, though that doesn’t sound like it has any vague timeline.

Speaking of vague timelines, when asked about what plans are for the MMO’s next 10 years, Schröder talked about the devs concepting a variety of additional game modes like tower defense, boss fight arenas, and club battles. However, he is once again extremely quick to tamp down expectations, noting that many ideas may never see the light of day and once again stating the company’s belief that roadmaps do more harm than good. Yeah.

The rest of the interview otherwise answers some expected questions of a 10 year-old game, like how the devs engage with its community and how things have changed from its start to now. It’s a generally good read on top of the little bean drops within.
